Certification Requirements

All HDMHA Volunteers and Coaches must obtain certifications as per Hockey New Brunswick and Hockey Canada.

Please note that as per Hockey New Brunswick, the "Respect in Sport: Activity Leader" course is no longer required for new coaches and volunteers in the 2025/2026 season. It has been replaced by a new course called "
The Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture", linked on the Hockey New Brunswick certifications page below. Those with Respect in Sport: Activity Leader do not need to take The Shift Forward as they are being considered equivalent.

Each required course is listed in Section 4 of the NB Minor Operations Manual for the 2025/2026 season
(Hockey New Brunswick - Publications).

  • Certification Requirements must be completed by December 15th, 2025.
  • Hockey New Brunswick will remove coaches from Official HCR Rosters if Certification Requirements are not completed by December 15th, 2025.
  • This may impact the team's ability to practice and participate in Games & Tournaments.

Checking Your Own HCR Profile

HDMHA Volunteers and Coaches are responsible for logging into the Hockey Canada Registry  to check the status of their own credentials and any additional requirements for the upcoming season.

Criminal Record Checks

It is mandatory for all HDMHA volunteers to obtain a copy of their criminal records and vulnerable sector check. To do this check, you must go to the RCMP office with 2 pieces of identification and a letter from HDMHA confirming that you will be volunteering during the season. With the letter, you will not have to pay any fees. When completed, you must hand in or email a copy of the check no later than December 15th of each year. Your criminal checks are valid for a period of 3 years.
